The Black Hole in Society and Why it Sucks Up Your Cake

Take a close look at what is happening to the American way of life. It is going downhill big time. We are facing the biggest crisis in the history of this country. And as with all crises, this one too is self-produced by every single individual.

How did we get here?
There are basically two ways to live your life and make a living. Each way is a different approach that varies considerably in its outcome.

The Lose-Lose Gamble Approach
You are focused on making a living by constantly looking for where and how to get the most money out of every situation. Money is the driving force be19F7hind in this scenario. You always try to get a piece of the cake as long as there is cake on the table. If there is no cake on the table, you move on to another table to see if there is some cake left for you.

It's a lousy way to get food on the table and to feed your family. It's a way that leads sooner or later to the bottom of the system, ending up with less and in the end, with nothing. Over time, you need to become smarter to grab the cake, as there is more and more competition from others for that choice piece of cake. At one point, you may even try to steal the cake. It's a desperate situation, but one you can justify, because after all, you need to eat, right?.

You are lost in cake hell.

As you constantly focus on getting your share of cake, you are broadcasting loud and clear to society that you are part of the great lumpy mass of existence - hungry for cake, but ultimately replaceable and easily dispensed with should your search for cake force you to unacceptable extremes. It's not really your fault. It's merely the result of our current process of automating and consumerizing society on a global scale.

Sometime during the previous century, the world started seriously to apply this automation process to every single product that is producible and consumable. We are currently not only automating everything possible, we are also in the process of squeezing more and more cake out of fewer and fewer ingredients.

Beware! The moment your work can be done by an automaton you likely will be replaced by it in the interests of automation. In a nutshell: if you act like a robot, and you work like a robot, you will be replaced by another robot sooner than you might think.

From an economic standpoint, you are constantly depleting society and the social system. You buy things you really cannot afford. You borrow more and more money, and therefore contribute to a money-debt system that presents more intractable challenges every year, both on a micro level and on a macro level.

Every year there is less to take out of the system. Yet every year you require more because of the system. If you project the consequences of supporting this kind of system, you can easily see that it ultimately has to fail. In fact, it's not too difficult to see that if everyone everywhere supported this kind of system, it would fail in a blink of an eye.

It's a straight lose-lose system. You lose and the whole society loses. Do you really think the bank just prints more money? Have you ever thought about where the money comes from? Why is it that the dollar is worth less and less? Everyone works harder and longer and more efficiently than ever before in the history of the human race. Yet, it cost more and more to simply have that piece of cake. Do you get the idea that all this is somehow connected?

The bottom line does not stop there. Individual (micro) loss and market or social (macro) loss is just the tip of the iceberg. Our system of monetized consumerism goes far beyond of our paltry ability to understand how it fully affects our planet. All resources - natural or otherwise - that are taken out and not somehow replenished are lost forever. This helps to create a downward spiral that ultimately affects our own chances of survival.

Where does the cake come from when everyone is focused solely on the cake itself and not on what goes into the cake? How can anyone make a cake when all the ingredients have been depleted? How about when they are priced out the reach of everyone but the wealthiest few in our society?

This approach is the simple result of thinking and acting as if you're the only one on this planet. It's the attitude that says, "It is all about me, me, me." This attitude is severely unhealthy. It ultimately leads to loss of power, loss of self-esteem, avoidance, and to feelings of hopelessness and depression. It is beyond the power of even Prozac to sugarcoat.

The Win-Win Contributer Approach
You are focused on contributing to society. You are aware that you are a unique person and you have developed your unique strengths, abilities and gifts - of course for your benefit, but also for the benefit of others. You are using these attributes along with a positive attitude to contribute your share to society.

You are in the service business. You enrich and enlighten society, and from the mixing bowl of your life, you make wonderful cakes. It gives you pleasure and fulfillment in your life. You are valued and appreciated as a contributor, and you get your fair share of return (money and other things even less tangible) by the people who love to buy your cake.

Imagine if everyone could do it this way. Imagine the results of this scenario. There would be so much cake on the table that no one would ever have to fight about the getting enough. Indeed, there would be countless tables with an abundance of cakes on each one. It would be a society that would be so rich, so deliciously abundant, that it would have plenty of resources, and also one in which everything that is created is sustainable.

There would be so much value in the system in the form of money and in many other intangibles, that society could cooperatively build a global energy production system that is cheap - maybe even free - and based on free resources from advanced solar, wind and other technologies.

As a member of this society, and because you are creatively and fully utilizing your strengths and talents, no robot can ever replace you. Artificial intelligence may arrive this century but it will definitely not replace an intelligent human being fully grounded in its creative strength. You holistically use your intuition as well as your intelligence to to make life decisions. As a consequence, your capacity to visualize reality and to create it flawlessly borders on the fantastic. Just try building a robot to do that . . .

This approach is the result of thinking and acting with the certain understanding that we are all connected. We have plenty of evidence that this is indeed the case. If you look into the rise of the Internet as a global medium of exchange, modern systems-based approaches to productivity and distribution and even our increasing understanding of natural systems and their attendant challenges like climate change and rapid alterations in the biosphere, this approach seems to provide a much better match to our current reality.

We have one earth and each of us is part of the whole system. We understand that our local actions have global effects. We und5B4erstand that contributing to the whole makes the whole stronger and richer, and gives back synergistically to each individual and to society as well. Each individual benefits in untold ways when he or she contributes back into the system.

It all starts out with a single belief or concept about how we want to see the world and ourselves. Everything else follows directly as the exact experience of this thinking. Everyone can choose this kind of abundance over deprivation if they are only willing to take their eyes off the cake and instead think about how to put it - and many more just as delicious - onto the world's table to benefit the whole.

The first time I used the bus in America I felt like an outlaw. What a terrible experience. I felt as if I had hit the bottom tier of society. The bus system obviously exists only for people that couldn't afford or are unable to drive a car. I was certain then, as I am now, that those fortunate people in their shiny SUVs whizzing past my bus window also held this low opinion of their carless neighbors. I don't think much has changed since then. I think that we are still a society of haves and have-nots when we could be a society of equal contributors to our wonderful cake.

It's a mere shift of viewpoint that can make all the difference. Other viewpoints can sometimes nurture your sense of self and provide the additional benefit of being good for all. For more than a generation now,551 my brother and sister Europeans have looked askance at anyone foolish or simply unaware enough to drive a car into the hearts of many cities.

Pedestrians shake their heads at you with ill humor as they hurry out of the path of your offending automobile. Obviously you are a dinosaur for taking your car into the city. However, if you avail yourself of the excellent and inexpensive bus system offered in nearly every European city, you are hip! You are the coolest of the cool. You know the score. With this approach - the one involving buses rather than cars - it is a breeze to meet new friends and have a wonderful relaxed time.

What a difference an attitude can make.

Motivation Tips - Dream A Little to Up Your Motivations

What most people want in life is to make their dreams come true. Sadly, more and more people seem to be giving up on their dreams and goals because they feel lost and disillusioned about their future, burdened by family and financial commitments, and are struggling to keep their jobs. In such a scenario, it is easy to feel jaded about your life and career. You will eventually lose motivation to do anything. But it is important to keep an open mind and remember that life is filled with opportunities for exploring and learning. It does not matter how old you are and at what stage your career is; you must give yourself a chance to rejuvenate your life and career.

To make this happen, try taking the following steps:

Have clear dreams

Everyone has different dreams and goals. Whether your objectives are big or small, it is important to have a clear dream. Your dreams will fuel your desire to attain greater heights. Without dreams to pursue, you will feel uncertain about your future. If your dreams are not clear enough, you will not be convinced enough to pursue them. You must also do things that are related to your dreams in order to generate motivations to do whatever tasksC4E and jobs ahead of you.

Leave your comfort zone

If you keep failing at what you have been doing, then you must do something different to achieve your goals. Discard your old habits and adopt new attitudes. If you don't step out of the comfort zone and discard your old habits, you will eventually lose all motivations to do anything. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new now. Take a course to upgrade yourself, switch jobs, or use a different approach to solve problems. The more flexible you are, the more control you will have over the outcome of your life.

Change your thinking

When you face challenges you are unable to solve, view them from a different angle. Your thinking does affect your perception and the outcome of your life. If you keep on dwelling on a problem, then you will probably end up going round in circles most of the time. But when you focus on the solution, you will find the answer to your problem. Positive thinking will brings positive motivations and hence positive results. So switch your thinking to a more positive mode, and you will find your life becoming smoother.

Take a break

All work and no play will make life dull, so make sure you relax and take a good break every now and then. One of the main reasons why people tend to get stuck in life or feel jaded is because they work too much and too hard. All their energy level and motivation had already being fully zapped by their work. Maintain a balance between, work, family and relaxation. Take time to travel with your family members, loved ones or friends. A different environment can inspire and energize you in amazing ways. When you are bogged down by work and problems, try to relax. When your mind is rested and your body recharged, you will be able to brainstorm for fresh ideas, and perhaps find the answers that were evading you in the past.

Gratitude Glasses

Seeing Life through
By: Lori Radun

Your boss calls you in his office today and hands you a $2500.00 bonus check because the company had a good year. Are you thankful?

You go in for your 20 week ultrasound. As you watch your growing baby on the screen, the doctor informs you that everything looks great. Your baby boy is healthy. Are you thankful?

Your husband comes home with a dozen roses. He remembered your anniversary! Are you thankful?

Of course you are. It's easy to be thankful when everything is going great. When we're on top of the mountain, and we're having a beautiful day and our blessings are easy to see, we are thankful. And we should be.

As you sit across from your attorney, he informs you that bankruptcy is your only recourse. Your dream and your business are going down the tubes. Are you thankful?

You and your husband have been going through a rough time in your marriage for over two years. You barely speak to one another anymore. Are you thankful?

If you answered yes to these last two scenarios, you are way ahead of most people. It is not easy to be thankful when we're sitting in the valley. When life seems to be handing us a bunch of lemons, we usually feel bitter or victimized.

Let's assume there is a new product out on the market. You can pick up a pair of "gratitude glasses" at Target for $19.99. These glasses enable you to see life in a whole different way. Here are some of the benefits you can expect from these "gratitude glasses".

There are no problems.

With these glasses, you have no problems in your life. Everything in your life is an opportunity. When we perceive life through our fears, unpaid bills and conflict, for instance, become problems or challenges. However, these glasses enable us to see life with loving eyes. The unpaid bills are an opportunity to learn more about financial responsibility. Conflict is an opportunity to learn how to love more deeply.

There are no mistakes.

With the gratitude glasses, mistakes disappear. These glasses help us understand that we are doing the best we can at any given moment, and so is everyone else. We all make decisions based on who we are at the time. Instead of viewing choices as "mistakes", why not look at them as an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and other people?

There are no annoying people.

Put on the gratitude glasses and suddenly all the annoying people in your life become your friends. You've heard the saying, "Mean people need love." Your new glasses now give you the ability to release your anger and understand the annoying people on a much deeper level. You begin to appreciate your differences and the judgments disappear. Your love begins to transform not only you, but others as well.

Change is good.

You pick up your gratitude glasses and put them on, and suddenly you embrace change. You are thankful that life does not always happen as planned. You stop trying to control life, and instead let life unfold. Change is exciting, fear of the unknown is gone, and you can't wait to see what happens next. Your faith is strong and unstoppable.

Pain has a purpose.

Whether it is physical or emotional pain, it's hard to go through life without experiencing it. But with your gratitude glasses, you see that your pain has a purpose. Your physical pain tells you that something in your mind or body is not working well. Your emotional pain is a wake up call to the transformation that is possible. Without the valleys, we cannot appreciate the mountain tops.

These inexpensive "gratitude glasses" offer so many more benefits, but what if you only received these five advantages? Would you purchase the glasses? Would you wear your gratitude glasses all the time? What if I told you the glasses were yours for free? All you have to do is shift your energy by changing your thoughts.

When we allow ourselves to wallow in victim and fighting thoughts, our brains release catabolic hormones that are destructive to our entire physical system, and ultimately, our success. By wearing your "gratitude glasses" you shift your thoughts to positive and constructive ones. Thinking thoughts of thankfulness and love makes an energetic shift in your mind and body, and the results will be astonishing.

A life coach just gave you a different way to look at life. Are you thankful?

Dreaming of Life

Lose Your Dream, Lose Your Life!

In New York City, a young cop by the name of Joseph was shot in the left eye and right knee during an arrest operation. 3 months later, he was discharged from the hospital and he is a totally different person.

Once a macho, high-spirited handsome young chap, he now was blind and lame. The New York City’s government and other organizations awarded him lots of medals for what he had done. During an interview, a reporter asked him: “How are you going to face such a great change in your life now?” “The criminal is still on the loose and I want to arrest him with my own hands!” He answered with fury in the eye that escaped the shot.

From then onwards, despite dissuasion from all levels, he participated in all arrest operations for that criminal. He had almost gone all over America. Once he even flew to Europe for a minor clue.

9 years later, the criminal was finally caught somewhere in a small country in Asia. Joseph, of course, played a key role in the arrest. He became a hero again. Everybody called him the toughest and bravest man in USA. Not long after, Joseph cut his wrist and died in his own apartment. He left a message that read like this: “All these years, arresting the criminal was my only reason for living. Now that he who has injured me has been brought to justice, my hatred is gone. And so is my reason for living. I have never felt so despair over my handicap.”

Losing a healthy eye or leg is a great distress. But losing your aim or meaning in life after that would mean losing everything. And that is truly tragic. Please do not lose your dream or aim or meaning in life because you need them to keep you alive.

Writing a Mission and Vision Statement

Last year, I attended a seminar where the attendees were asked to define their personal mission or purpose in one sentence. Out of about a group of about three hundred people, fewer than a dozen were able to articulate a mission statement.

It’s not that living with purpose is a low priority for most of us. Research by Richard J. Leider and David Shapiro, authors of Repacking Your Bags, found that the number one deadly fear of most people is “having lived a meaningless life.”

Why, then, does writing a mission statement seem like such a daunting task?

I believe the main reason lies in the lack of practical resources. Though you can avail yourself of prolific advice about writing mission statements from management experts and from books, the Internet, and so forth—most of this information is complex and confusing. Also, most of these resources target corporations and organizations, providing little practical advice for an individual who wants to craft a personal mission statement.

When you were a child you probably learned how to start a fire by focusing sunlight through a magnifying glass. Sunlight alone could not start the fire; it had to be focused through the magnifying glass. This reflects a basic principle of solar energy—though a large amount of sunlight falls on the earth, the light is diffused. For the sun to be utilized for heating, solar energy units must be designed to collect and concentrate the light.

The same principle applies to purpose. It must be focused to produce results. With no focus, there is no mechanism for establishing direction or goals. As Diana Scharf Hunt said, “Goals are dreams with deadlines.”

Committing yourself to defining your purpose is the perhaps the most important task you could ever engage in. “Discovering your purpose will put your life into crystal-clear perspective,” says Mark Victor Hansen in an Internet article “Conceptualize your Purpose.” “You will see another world, one in which you are a necessary and intricate spoke in the wheel.”

Your Personal Mission Statement

What is a mission statement? Since the focus of this article is on personal life purpose, as opposed to a corporate or organizational purpose, I’m going to simplify the process with the aim of making it easy for individuals who desire to articulate their purpose. Let’s use the following definitions:

Mission Statement: Concise statement of your life purpose. Vision Statement: Concise statement of the unique and distinctive ways that you will accomplish your purpose.

The first place to start is your mission statement. I will use the terms “mission” and “purpose” interchangeably. Choose the term you like best.

Think of your mission statement as a general statement encompassing your reason for existence—in other words, a broad statement of what you hope to accomplish. It does not include the distinctive ways that you intend to accomplish your purpose; that will be articulated in your vision statement.

Your mission statement will help you stay on course. In First Things First, Stephen Covey emphasizes the motivation and energy that result from an effective mission statement. “What we’re talking about here is not simply writing a statement of belief. We’re talking about accessing and creating an open connection with the deep energy that comes from a well-defined, thoroughly integrated sense of purpose and meaning in life.”

Before you develop your mission statement, it is important to understand what a mission statement is not. It is not a to-do list. Nor is it a statement of strategies or methods. It is not a job description. Jobs and roles change through life’s different seasons; purpose embodies a broad vision that encompasses all your roles.

You may not see a clear picture right now, and that’s fine. Relax. Don’t sweat it. Enjoy the process.

In other words, your mission statement is not written in stone. You can and should revisit it periodically. Most likely you will revise and fine-tune it time and again. Don’t be concerned about whether it is precisely accurate. Pray and ask God to lead you in this endeavour.

Take time out from your busy schedule to prayerfully reflect on your personal mission, as you understand it at this point on your journey. Look at the big picture, and ask yourself questions like, Who am I? Why am I here? What are my desires and dreams? What is my mission, or purpose?

Defining your purpose should be a stimulating and motivating exercise. It should stir enthusiasm and excitement.

Many people feel that purpose must relate to a vision of achieving something of great magnitude or something that affects a nation or even the entire world. But purpose does not necessarily involve grandiose ideas.

I like what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Everyone has the power for greatness—not for fame but greatness, because greatness is determined by service.”

Defining your passions within a larger context will help you articulate your purpose.

Successful people not only have a clear vision of what they want to do, but why. The why is as important as the what, for it is the why that fuels vision and keeps you motivated when you face setbacks.

Understanding why you want to do something will help you define your purpose. For example, perhaps you believe you are called to leadership in the business arena. Ask yourself, Why do I want to do this?

Think about how you can use your gifts to seek others. Always seek to understand the big picture – the purpose for your passions and talents.

Now get out some paper or your Palm Pilate or laptop or whatever communications gadget you like best, and begin drafting your mission statement. I’ll say it again—do not obsess about getting it perfect. I wrote and rewrote my mission statement many times. And who knows, I may refine it again in the future.

Keep revising it until you can define it in one clear, concise sentence.

Here is my mission statement: “To inspire and equip women to reach their divine potential.”

Notice that this statement does not include the specifics of how I will accomplish my mission. It says nothing about the unique and distinctive strategies I will employ for achieving my purpose.

Your Vision Statement

Now that you have defined your mission statement in one sentence, you are ready to take the next step and craft your vision statement. The vision statement adds the all-important how. It defines the distinctive and specific ways that you will accomplish your mission.

As George Barna says in The Power of Vision, “While the mission statement is philosophic in nature, the vision statement is strategic in nature.” While mission relates to general approaches, “vision relates to specific actions.”

Your vision statement propels your mission to specific strategies. Specifying the primary activities you will pursue to accomplish your purpose, it reflects your unique passions, talents, and skills.

You should be able to define your vision statement in one concise paragraph. The first sentence of this paragraph is your mission statement. The next one or two sentences specify how you will accomplish your mission.

Your vision statement will evolve over time, reflecting your character development and the acquisition of more skills and experience.

At one time, my vision statement read as follows: “To inspire and equip women to reach their divine potential. This will be accomplished by writing articles and books and by speaking at conferences and seminars.”

As time went on, I revised my vision statement to the following: “To inspire and equip women to reach their divine potential. This will be accomplished by writing articles, columns, books, and e-books; by publishing an online women’s magazine; and by speaking at conferences and seminars.”

Notice that the first sentence (my mission statement) did not change. The next sentence, which encompasses how I will achieve my mission, continues evolving.

Thousands of other women may have the same mission statement as mine but have different vision statements reflecting their unique gifts and callings.

For example, one woman might reach the same mission as mine through counselling. Her vision statement might read something like this: “To inspire and equip women to reach their divine potential. This will be accomplished through personal counselling.”

Another woman might have a vision statement like this: “To inspire and equip women to reach their divine potential. This will be accomplished by coaching women in leadership and business management skills.”

Can you see how the vision statement encompasses uniqueness and specificity? It is the vision statement—not the mission statement—that reflects your unique gifts and strategies.

Your vision statement serves as a compass to keep things going in the right direction. It helps you measure your progress, set goals, establish priorities, and know when to use one of the most important words in your vocabulary: No.

One of my favourite movies is Apollo 13. I never fail to be inspired by the courage and resourcefulness of the astronauts amid unimaginable pressure and seemingly impossible odds. On top of a litany of other crippling technical problems, the astronauts were faced with the reality that their oxygen could run out, they could be poisoned by carbon dioxide accumulations, or they could freeze to death. Even if they managed to return to the earth’s atmosphere, they had to enter at precisely the right angle.

If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll recall there were many decisions and actions that contributed to their successful landing. One of those actions was ensuring they kept the earth in sight at all times, for they had lost their navigational equipment.

In the same way, your vision statement will keep you moving in the right direction. It will help you stay focused on the big picture, even when facing emotional upheaval, discouragement, obstacles, and all the other distractions that life throws at you.

Mission and vision statements provide focus to your purpose. As Henry David Thoreau said, “In the long run men only hit what they aim for.”

Judy Rushfeldt is an author, speaker, and online magazine publisher (http://www.LifeToolsforWomen.com) whose passion is to help women reach their dreams. So is the Law of Attraction real or just another marketing gimmick?

The Truth About The Law Of Attraction

Everyone is talking about the Secret. From Oprah to David Letterman, it is the new media buzz.

The Secret is a movie about the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction has been around since the beginning of mankind but only a select few knew what was it about. Those who knew and understood the law were some of the most successful men of the history of mankind.

The truth is nobody really knows. Law of Attraction can go by any other name but essentially the Law of Attraction is everywhere and is working every single second : Whatever you think about and focus on, you will bring about. This is a proven fact based on many examples of famous men in the history of mankind. Thomas Edison, a man that changed the history of men totally, had never gave up his dream even though he kept failing. It is this unwavering focus and determined drive which he had that eventually brought or "attracted" what he wanted.

However, many men and women found much difficulty in using the Law of Attraction to bring about the things that they want in life. In the end, most of these men and women often ended up proclaiming that the Law of Attraction does not work.

There are 3 things that can thwart your effort in using the Law of Attraction :

1. Doubt.
When you have even a tiniest doubt about the Law of Attraction, whatever it is that you are trying to attract will move further away from you. Having doubt in yourself or your own instinct will also deter the attraction. Why? The Universe will often in its own way, present to you opportunities to help you but you may not have jumped at these opportunities due to your doubt.

2. Negativity.
When you focus on negative thoughts like "I do not want debt in my life", more debt will come into your life instead. The Universe does not understand "I want" vs "I do not want". It only knows that it will give to you whatever thing you focus on. Thus, why not focus on "I am a millionaire on 31st January 2009" instead?

3. Taking No Action.
This may be due to your laziness or due to self doubt as in Point 1. Imagine having the best no-risk opportunities presented to you but yet you do not take action, do you think you will be able to successfully attract all the things you want in your life?

Once you can eliminate the above points, the Universe will start arranging the events in your life to attract the things that you want into your life. All you have to do is be patient, be grateful to whatever you have now and never give up. To accelerate the process of attracting, start focusing and visualizing what you want every single day.

If you want to attract abundance and wealth in your life, Alison recommends Bob Proctor's The Science of Getting Rich Program that guides you step-by-step on how to attract wealth, health and riches. You can get a FREE interview report with Bob Proctor here: http://www.abundanceattracting.com
